Production of clean enery

Main actions:

As part of the work in cogeneration, the following actions are carried out:

• Production of low-environmental-impact energy
• Sale of energy to ICE. Through this, 30,000 homes are prvcided with electricity every day for five months. In the dry season, El Viejo becomes one of ICE’s main private generators.
• Consumption efficiency: we consume 35.93 kWh but we generate 81.4 kWh for every ton of sugarcane. Only in the harvesting period, we sell more energy than we consume during the entire year.
• Gas offsetting: in the cogeneration process, the gases released by the boilers are offset by the contribution made by the sugarcane when it grows. This leads to carbon-neutral energy.
• Changes in the process to promote energy saving: replacement of incandescent lighting with LED and usage monitoring, implementation of speed variators, usage control of equipment during the harvest, replacement of inefficient equipment.
