Our collaborators
Azucarera El Viejo promotes social development; we seek the constant improvement of the quality of life of our collaborators and their families. Additionally, we continuously work in offering better social and economic conditions to the nearby communities.
As Promoters of Social Development, we try to offer to our collaborators a series of conditions that allow them to live a proper and dignified life in different aspects: occupational safety, health, education, recreation, housing, and the social and economic aspects.
For this, the company has developed the ACTIVARSE program, which promotes specific initiatives in these areas, such as:
Education
For Azucarera El Viejo, the education of its collaborators and children is a priority.
We are covinced that the best way to progress in the economic and social fields is by offering the best educational opportunities in different fields.
For this end, we offer the following educational opportunities:
- Scholarships for Outstanding Performance for Employees’ Children: We reward the preseverance and commitment of children and adolescents who year after year show their desire to excel and to reach their goals.
- Training Program: we make sure that all our collaborators remain up to date in their knowledge in order to optimize all of the company’s processes.
- University Scholarships: We try to provide our collaborators with opportunities to continue with their primary, secondary, technical or university education. We believe that this collaboration will improve the life conditions of their families.
- Financial Consultancy: We try to provide our collaborators and their families with tools and advice for them to learn how to manage their family finances.
Health
The company has a medical office for employees and their families, who receive immediate health care and medication at the same place.
Additionally, the company has agreements with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund and with the National Insurane Institute. This makes it possible for the administrative and medical procedures required by the collaborators to be done from the company’s medical office.
Every year, all collaborators receive a medical diagnosis, thus providing follow-ups of their health condition as well as the suitable and personalized treatment according to their needs. In parallel, there is a dental service, which attends to employees and their families on a monthly basis.
Additionally, other health services provided in the company are coordinated, such as optometry, medical examinations, physiotherapy, etc..
Housing
As Promoters of Social Development, we work to offer the best living conditions to our collaborators, being aware that suitable housing is a very important aspect for the well-being of the family.
Azucarera El Viejo provides its collaborators with the following services:
Legal and technical consultancies with regard to the acquisition of houses or land: We guide them through the steps that must be followed for securing the funds for the purchase of a house.
Support for collaborators in the management of bonds for house improvement or construction: We offer the necessary guidance for conducting the negotiations to obtain a housing bond. The goal is to complete the steps in the shortest possible time.
El Viejo’s town-planning program: some land close to the company was set up so that collaborators have the option to buy a parcel at very favorable conditions that will allow them to apply for a housing bond with the State.
Occupational health
From the viewpoint of the company’s strategy, the topic of risk prevention plays a leading role, where the identification and elimination of risk conditions and the correct use of safety equipment are priorities in the program. Our goal is to be a zero-injury company.
Promotion of Volunteering
The company donates four hours per collaborator for community work and asks each one to donate another four hours, thus encouraging a culture of community responsibility collaborator. Little by little, the company has been developing professional volunteering aligned with the strategy, with projects that have a positive effect on the communities in aspects that are sensitive or important for their development.
Retirement Program
Annually, the company approaches employees who are close to retirement to support them with their projects or productive ideas, which they would like to develop once they retire, as well as to ensure that the housing conditions of all of them are decent.
