Who are we?
Azucarera El Viejo is a Costa Rican agroindustrial company that produces more than 1.800.000 of 50-kg sacks of sugar, which is equivalent to 22.7% of the national production.
We are located in an area rich in cultural and natural wealth, La Guinea, county of Carrillo, in the Province of Guanacaste.
The company uses 8,841 hectares for the cultivation of sugarcane. Thirty-three percent (33%) of the raw material we use for the production of sugar comes from the farms of 249 independent producers located in Cañas, Liberia, Bagaces, Carrillo, Santa Cruz and Nicoya.
We generate 426 direct permanent jobs and 400 direct temporary jobs. A part of its value chain consists of 1,600 national suppliers, and more than 3,000 individuals are benefited by indirect employment generated by the production of sugar.
Our company cares about the environment. One of our actions on that line is the production of clean energy using bagasse waste to produce steam in the boilers. This energy is used inside the production process and it is also sold to the national network.
Our firm commitment with quality, the environment, our clients, collaborators and communities has been an important foundation for the company’s responsible development, which is reflected in our management systems. For this reason, our operations and growth plans are intended to increase social and economic benefits, while actions are taken to minimize environmental impact.
