Sugar and syrup

In Costa Rica, the entity responsible for commercializing sugar and syrup is the Liga Agrícola de la Caña (LAICA).

Azucarera El Viejo, like other national mills, delivers its product to LAICA for its commercialization.

Currently, there are 11 mills and 7,500 sugarcane producers in the country. The three largest mills are located in Guanacaste; 54.78% of the national production comes from this province.

Azucarera El Viejo has a production of more than 1,800,000 sacks of sugar, which is equivalent to 22.7% of the national productio..

From the sugar that we process, we obtain the following products:

  • Raw sugar
  • White regular sugar

  • Molasses
